Long-form storytelling only became a regular part of my professional portfolio in September 2022. While I wrote a few articles here and there before then, in the period between September 2022 and December 2026, here is what I produced. I pitched to our internal news team (who then pitched to media), contributed articles, and managed our department’s blog—all while running multiple social media accounts, producing video, and training teams.

Written by M.M. Petranoff, originally published July 2, 2024 on News.IU.edu, this human interest story was written to highlight the Refugee Task Force’s work, encourage donations, and provide quotes and tangible outcomes for grant reporting.

Press Release

Written under deadline (one week turnaround) with an information embargo, this press release was the third written by MM Petranoff about Indiana University’s success in the Boren Awards. Leadership quotes were initially drafted by MM Petranoff and approved by leadership. Originally published June 5, 2025 on News.IU.edu.

Program Highlight

This piece required nine interviews over a three month period including allowing time for governmental clearance. It was written and pitched to news by MM Petranoff, then edited down to <1400 words to align with new brand guidelines. Originally published December 10, 2025 on News.IU.edu.

Event Recap

This more casual piece was written as post-event coverage, providing both a summary and photography of a grant-awarding project. The article was then used for grant reporting. Photographed and written by MM Petranoff, originally published on May 16, 2025 on the IU Global blog.
